We Support Fintech Startups to Grow
and Create Impact.
Introduction
The PesaTech Accelerator is a fintech ecosystem acceleration program launched by UNCDF in Tanzania in 2022 to catalyze the growth of innovative fintech enterprises. Building on the success of previous cohorts that supported 22 fintechs and unlocked over $ 13 million in investments, Cohort 3 will further strengthen Tanzania’s fintech ecosystem through targeted technical assistance and catalytic funding. With funding from the European Union, UNCDF is partnering with Anza Entrepreneurs, NMB Bank, Airtel Tanzania, and IPF Software to implement PesaTech Cohort 3.
Our Approach
The program adopted a comprehensive acceleration model that combined hands-on technical assistance, curated masterclasses, specialized clinics, and continuous mentorship. Startups underwent diagnostic assessments to identify growth bottlenecks across compliance, financial management, product refinement, user acquisition, governance, and investor preparedness.
Through structured bootcamps, clinics, and tailored advisory support, founders refined value propositions, strengthened regulatory alignment, improved customer experience, and developed investment-ready growth plans. Technical mentors and sector experts provided one-on-one guidance on UX/UI, product development, data protection, business modelling, partnership building, and capital raising. The program also facilitated ecosystem linkages with regulators, banks, mobile network operators, investors, and other digital finance actors.
Target Impact
The accelerator aimS to strengthen Tanzania’s fintech ecosystem by equipping entrepreneurs with the skills, tools, and networks required to build viable, scalable, and compliant solutions. Startups enhanced their operational capacity, improved financial and governance systems, and refined market-entry strategies. Many achieved stronger investor readiness through improved financial storytelling, pitch refinement, and compliance alignment. Others expanded their customer base and unlocked new partnership opportunities with banks, telcos, and corporate partners.
